Loooonnnngggg Days....
It's only 8:30 here as I'm writing this but I was ready for bed about an hour ago. Right now Megan, myself, and 2 others are here at the house. The rest of the team went to eat Chinese. I have a Skype date with my family and the rest were too tired so we stayed home. In all reality we didn't do a whole lot today. We woke up later than normal because we didn't have to be to Bukeeka as early. Then we sat through Megan and I's first church service. It was amazing. Pastor Robert preached about how worrying is harmful to the body and soul. Ironic much?? Bruce and Nakato came to church with us. They brought their two little 8 month old twins and there little girl who is about 6. She fell asleep on my lap and got very heavy. After church let out we wondered down to the feild where the Fountain team was warming up. As we were sitting there I looked out to the hills and said "Guys, we're about to get drenched." And what do you know, ten minutes later it starts raining. So we all ran back up to the school for shelter and waited out the rain. For an hour at least. It let up and Megan and Kyle went back to the feild. As they walked onto the feild, they were approached by Todd who was saying that a boy had broken his leg. Todd ran back to the school to tell the rest of us while Megan and Kyle rushed onto the feild to find Bruce there already splinting the leg. So they came ahead of the group to get everything ready. Kyle is a pre-med student so he was excited to get some hands on experience. He's had two years of sports medicine. When they finally got the boy up to the school the whole team was there and ready to help. We got him onto one of the tables and Megan and I had to hold him down while Kyle examined the knee. The poor boy was in sooo much pain. Kyle determined that he had only sprained his knee (LCL to be exact). So Pastor Robert and the headmaster went to find the boys parents and we entertained some kids and the boy by play fighting with some sticks. They loved that game :) After a while the tournement began again and the boy was taken to the hospital. Kyle and Paul went with him and the rest of us stayed to support the Fountain teams. We all ended up at the soccer feild for the championship game between Fountain and another school. About halfway through the game we hear exstatic screaming coming from the school where the netball tourney was going on and then a chant started up. Turns out, the Fountain girls had won the championship game which also meant they won a steer for the school. They made their way to the soccer feild chanting "Headmaster, we have won. Give us more posho!" Posho is what they eat for lunch. Back to the soccer game. The Fountain boys were playing very well but so was the other team. So well in fact, that the game had to go into double over time! At the very end of the second overtime, a penalty was called against the other team and we got a free kick. AND IT WENT IN!!!! Fountain of Hope had won the soccer tourney as well, meaning they had won two steers. The rest of the day was full of celebration and hugs...fast forward two days...it's now Tuesday evening and we are sitting here talking to Abdu. The past two days we have been doing a HIV clinic at Fountian. Oh...God is amazing. We tested 580ish students and parents and only 4 of them were HIV positive. These people will now get the help they need to live longer. We also tested 10 students for syphilis and only 1 tested positive, so God is amazing. Sorry this post is so long, but the past few days have been long. I promise...we'll write some shorter ones next.

I've been waiting to hear about the church service. Can you elaborate more on it? How long was it? Did you have to get up and sing or give a testimony? Was it in English or Lungandan? I'm really curious about it. Pam sent an email with some pictures of the team working on that boy who got hurt and two of them had you guys in it. It was neat that you could help in the way you did. God is amazing and so are you girls!! Love, Mom Whiteneck
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed your 1st church service. God has a way of sending messages through various avenues just as he did with the events of your previous days then through the message in church. He is awesome and amazing indeed. It was good that you girls got to help with the injured boy. Paul has pictures on his email with you two in them. You were looking pretty serious, but also quite helpful. I liked your impromptu entertainment also. Simply things usually work out better than an elaborate one does as you witnessed. Good job ladies! Love, Mom Whiteneck
ReplyDeleteIt's been great to read your posts. I have been praying for you and your team and will continue to do so. Remember, the Light always shines bright and is more powerful than the darkness of evil. You are experiencing things that most of us will never have the opportunity to experience. We're praying God continues to mold you and make you into His workmanship through these experiences so you can continue to be salt and light to the world! Can't wait to hear more about your trip, Cassie. Aunt Kim
