Being Intentional?

As we work our way through the “Called” devotional book, today’s title is “Being Intentional?” where we are asked to consider our intentions regarding this Mission Trip. The following are direct excerpts from the book by Lena Wood:
They don’t know the Lord, so they may not recognize him in you. And they may press some unwelcome customs on you. Handle with grace. You may have to take a sip of a foul beverage, sit on the floor when you’d like to have a chair, work when you need sleep. You may have to obey dumb instructions, go days without bathing, refrain from scowling at people as they bow to idols, wash dishes (in cold water!) when you thought you were going to be evangelizing. Adapt as needed.
Be ready to cross off a few items (you have listed as your intentions) or to write off the whole list if the Lord has something else in mind. God’s plans are the best-laid plans. And you might fit into those plans in a different way than you intended.
Humble yourself like Isaiah.
Grieve like Paul.
Stand firm like Elijah.
Lead like Deborah.
Stay calm like Daniel.
Step forward like Esther.
Encourage like Barnabas.
Praise like David.
Scratch out the word intentional from this devo title. In its place write flexible or adaptable. Or teachable, which means “willing to change.” Talk to God today about these specific words; intentional, flexible, adaptable, and teachable.
“I know the plans I have for you,” God said (Jeremiah 29:11). Just a thought: If the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, maybe the road to Heaven is paved with making the best of it when all your good intentions seem to get stomped on.
